Meet Erik Diedrichsen

Owner of Riverbend Resources

Erik Diedrichsen and his family moved from Boston to West Bridgewater, a rural town in Eastern Massachusetts. Here, the family found themselves unexpectedly embracing the homesteading lifestyle. They then started with a few chicks, gifted from a relative’s school project, which over time quickly grew into a backyard farm complete with chickens, beehives, and maple syrup production. The family discovered joy in producing their own eggs, honey, and syrup, but also faced the real-world challenges of raising poultry, particularly the mess and waste associated with traditional feeders.

Drawing on his experience as a part-time homesteader, Erik channeled his energy into solving a problem he knew firsthand: the inefficiency and mess of standard chicken feeders. He sketched ideas, built prototypes, and soon developed a weatherproof feeder attachment that could turn any plastic container into a clean, secure feeding system for chickens.

Innovation and Product Development

Erik’s invention, the Poultry Pro Feeder, was born out of necessity and ingenuity. The feeder reduces waste, keeps feed dry, and prevents pests—addressing the core frustrations of backyard chicken keepers. The product’s design allows for quick installation using the hole saw included in each kit, making it accessible even for novice poultry owners. Encouraged by the positive reception from his own flock and local farmers, Erik refined the design, secured patents, and officially launched Riverbend Resources in 2020.

Challenges and Resilience

Erik’s journey has not been without obstacles. He faced intense competition from copycat products, responding by securing multiple design patents and filing federal restraining orders against counterfeiters. Despite these challenges, Erik remained focused on his mission: to make poultry care easier, more affordable, and more sustainable for small farmers and backyard enthusiasts.

Family and Community at the Core

Erik’s family plays a central role in Riverbend Resources. From product testing to creative marketing at trade shows, the Diedrichsen family is deeply involved in the business. Erik’s story as a hands-on farmer, inventor, and entrepreneur resonates with customers who appreciate the authenticity and grassroots ethos of the brand.

Commitment to Sustainability and Education

Beyond product innovation, Erik is committed to giving back. Riverbend Resources supports animal welfare, promotes sustainable farming practices, and funds educational programs for underserved communities. The company is exploring initiatives like the Free Chick Program to encourage self-sufficiency and reduce food waste, furthering its impact on local food systems and environmental conservation.

Leadership and Vision

As owner and chief innovator, Erik Diedrichsen continues to drive Riverbend Resources forward. His leadership is marked by a relentless focus on solving real problems, building durable products, and fostering a community of like-minded homesteaders and poultry enthusiasts. Under his guidance, what began as a backyard experiment has grown into a nationally recognized brand, making a positive impact on thousands of chicken coops across the country.

Erik Diedrichsen’s story is one of resilience, innovation, and community—a true reflection of the values that drive Riverbend Resources.

From Backyard Solution to National Brand

Erik’s background in the trade show industry proved invaluable as he scaled his business. Leveraging industry contacts (in design and manufacturing), he brought the Poultry Pro Feeder to market within a year. The product quickly gained traction, winning First Place in Innovation at SUPERZOO® and Second Place at Global Pet Expo®! Erik’s daughters even joined him at trade shows in chicken costumes to promote the brand. Customer demand led to the introduction of the Poultry Pro Waterer, further expanding Riverbend’s product line.

Riverbend Resources experienced rapid growth, with products now available in major farm supply stores like Lowe’s and Tractor Supply. His appearance on the 16th season of Shark Tank marked a turning point. This exposure and accelerated sales helped the company to expand their retail distribution.
